July & August Progress Report

Sun Sep 03 2017

Hello! This is FreeDroidRPG's progress report for July and August 2017!

After a good rest in July, and the usual mood for resuming real life work in August, we're in September. However, we did not only sleep over those two months. Of course, we remembered this game, and here are some changes we did:

  • Some inconsistency in skill degrees was fixed. Thanks, Xenux!
  • During tutorial, and only then, you're able to increase takeover time for an easier learning.
  • Translations updated. We're always looking for translators! Credit goes to Fluzz, as usual.
  • Jesusaves did a few grammar mistakes on Erin, but worry not, it's fixed!

On Review Board, some patches like Energy Shield, Keyboard fixes, Butch update, and a couple of other amazing things are closer to be featured on next release. You can also submit a patch! Who knows, your name may be on this list next time!

If you noticed any bug when playing, or want to request a feature, consider filling a bug or feature request. It's easy and fast! And if you need help with anything, or just want to say hi, fell free to Contact us! Bring your friends, everyone is welcome in our IRC channel!

...Except, maybe, some MegaSys bots.

We'd also like to thank all contributors whose names weren't mentioned here. This game is done by the work of many people, without them this project would not be possible.

May & June Progress Report

Mon Jul 03 2017

Hello! This is FreeDroidRPG's progress report for May and June 2017!

Ah, vacations, finally! Or, to most of us, this means last-minute work! Anyway, we still managed to do some things for FreedroidRPG! Check them out!

  • Thanks to Montyms and Fluzz, music after credits (or any title) is now fixed!
  • Almost every NPC ingame will know when you propagate a faulty firmware upgrade!
  • Thanks to Jesusalva (and possibly a hack!), when buying equipment at Red Guard, the ammo will be sold separately! This means it'll be easier to reload your guns!
  • You are now capable to build the game even without gettext installed. This is all due to fluzz's endless efforts!
  • Fluzz also did various optimizations and code changes.
  • Xenux came by, and programmed a terminal so you can withdraw from Arena!
  • Grammar fixes.
  • Fix bugs on dialogs.
  • We fixed even more bugs! (how did they got in, anyway?)

We'd also like to thank all contributors whose names weren't mentioned here. This game is done by the work of many people, without them this project would not be possible.

Any help and feedback is greatly appreciated. You may even find your name on this list on the future, so what you're waiting for? Contact us to make this game even greater!

You can also help by translating the game, or by filling a bug or feature request, and if you want to do things by yourself, you can try posting a patch on our ReviewBoard. Who knows? Your name might be on this list on the future!

March & April Progress Report

Mon May 01 2017

Hello! This is FreeDroidRPG's progress report for March and April 2017!

Happy work day! To celebrate that special date, we worked! No, it's not April fool, we're already on may! Check out what we did!

  • Oh noes! Jesusalva went with an army of 999 bots to inspect Spencer and confiscated the Electro Laser Rifle for violating safety rules! But Spencer said to not worry, because he already provided a cannon to replace it! Our developers tested it, just check what they said:
    • “Someone help me! I can't stop shooting! AAAAAAAHHH!!”
    • “Aiming? Why, when your weapon shoots THAT fast?! Uh oh, I ran out of ammo...”
    • “The fastest gun on the west. I only lost once, against a guy with Exterminators.”

Because that change, some NPCs got mad and promised that they would switch to rebel faction.

  • HF workers decided to paint some more groundmarkers, because they often ended up on the wrong side of the factory.
  • Some bugs concerning dialog nodes were fixed. Thanks, CQ!
  • Modders life got really easier, because fluzz implemented a whole act structure and even lualized quests file. Jesusalva added docs about using multiple acts in the developer section of the website.
  • When starting an act, a transient message box will be displayed. This affects act 1, too.
  • Jesusalva also went to inspect Tamara, and increased a certain book price. He was called by the Bombmaker, after several complaints of how he wasn't being able to sell his wonderful bombs...
  • can-ned_food remotely hacked one of the MegaSys terminals, and replaced its GNU OS with a proprietary one. All hail non-free software!
  • can-ned_food, along with Jesusalva and Scott Furry, added more descriptions for some items and even fixed a few typos.
  • Jesusalva and RazorSharpFang decided to help all melee fighters on this game. You can now even get expertise on melee, use Light Saber with a shield, and various tweaks for you who like to smash things, like us.
  • Of course, programmers weren't forgotten! They can also improve their skill up to the expert level - but, you surely didn't know that the teacher also offers a special skill for hacking, did you?
  • Agent Zero ordered that the bots guarding strategic positions on MS installations should have their armor reinforced.
  • Fluzz worked hard and now some events will trigger only once. They can even be enabled and disabled from dialogs!
  • Jesusalva also took the chance to inspect HF Office, but this time it was for players benefit! He ordered that all traps should be deactivated after you step on them: No more infinite bot spawn!
  • Finally, some ugly issues with menus on low resolutions were fixed. You can now play FreedroidRPG without worries as long that your resolution is at minimum 640x480.
  • Various bugs and typos were squashed, but this list is already too long to mention them. Thanks everyone who reported them, and who did a patch!

And for the ones messing with source code, dynarrays are gradually gaining space on FreedroidRPG.

We'd also like to thank all contributors whose names weren't mentioned here. This game is done by the work of many people, without them this project would not be possible.

Any help and feedback is greatly appreciated. You may even find your name on this list on the future, so what you're waiting for? Join us!

You can also help by translating the game, or by filling a bug or feature request, and if you want to do things by yourself, you can try posting a patch on our ReviewBoard.

January & February Progress Report

Wed Mar 01 2017

Hello! This is FreeDroidRPG's progress report for January and February 2017!

It's carnival! Bots have given a break to the devs for some unknown reason. We believe they are plotting something! A few interesting things happened while we reloaded our rifles to get ready for the next wave, check out!

  • Chandra finally had time to browse on Freedroid website and he is now able to inform Tux about a few... curious facts.
  • We reworked the rendering of some menus! From header position to highlight, we hope they look and feel better now!
  • After hearing countless complaints about how Master Arena was weak, the Red Guard leader gave order to do some... experiments... on the droids. The master arena now provides its own challenge, far different from the ones on standard arena.
  • Dixon, Mike and Richard were repeating themselves when explaining about droids. Jesusaves made sure that won't happen again.
  • DroidBotAI came into our bar yesterday. He claims to be coming from another continent with sentient bots in dire need of addons. Weird, uh?
  • A few more people outside the town will finally notice that the apocalypse is over! Maybe if they accompanied our news feed they wouldn't take so much time to learn it.
  • Jennifer will now give you a small reward for finding her toolkit. She wanted to do a little more but the developers were too busy reloading their Exterminator clips...
  • A bug which led to some dialog lines not being displayed when talking to the HF Defense Structure Leader was fixed.
  • And we must say that thanks to fluzz endless efforts, FreedroidRPG is almost ready to receive the Act expansion! What is that? Secret, stay tuned for next updates...
  • not only that, but various bugs and warnings were squashed. Thanks for everyone who reported them, and for everyone who did a patch!

We'd also like to thank all contributors whose names weren't mentioned here. This game is done by the work of many people which without them this game wouldn't be possible.

Now, break is over, the bots will resume their attack soon! There is no time to lose! Please consider helping us by translating the game, or, if you find a bug and/or want to propose something, consider filling a bug or feature request. And if you want to do things by yourself try posting a patch on our ReviewBoard. You can also contact us anytime you want. Join our ranks, and you may even find your name on this list in the future!

To make this the best game possible, any help and feedback is appreciated!

November & December Progress Report

Sat Jan 07 2017

Hello, merry Christmas and happy new year! This is FreeDroidRPG's progress report for November and December of 2016!

We didn't only celebrated the Christmas and the New Year, but we also actually worked on the project, and here are some changes which happened over the course of these two months:

  • Thanks to fluzz and Snark, several changes were done to include FreedroidRPG on Debian distro. Some built-in documentation were updated on the way, like the README. With contributions of Matthias Krüeger.
  • Thanks to infrared and basse, our comrades at the Hell Fortress can take a trip to some resort island without relying exclusively on teletransporting. If you find our newest ship obstacle and decide to travel, be sure to look at the window and enjoy the view!
  • Thanks to ahuillet, FreedroidRPG is every day faster on OpenGL and Takeovers are now easier to debug.
  • Thanks to Jesusaves, you can now learn about the remaining droid classes. Because knowledge is POWER!
  • Thanks to Miles, when playing Nethack, if you decide for random race and job, secrets may be found.
  • Based on our Usability Study, you don't need to worry in killing Butch when you already forgot his great offense of calling you a newbie. (Whetever this is a great offense or not remains to be checked.)
  • Thanks to Fluzz, gettext and autoconf were updated and now there'll be less warnings when auto-generating our configure files.

And, thanks to Fluzz, the directory structure and engine are receiving the final changes in order to support two acts. Yes, you've saved our town, but there's a whole world which needs saving! Stay tuned for updates.

We'd also like to thank all contributors whose names weren't mentioned here. This game is done by the work of many people which without them this game wouldn't be possible.

However, not all ghostly bugs and typos were found yet. Maps remains to be done. Secrets remains to be created and found. If you want to join our bug hunt, or want to contribute to this project, you have many options: multiple ways to contact us, a handy bug and feature request tracker for specific feedback, and, for patches, we have ReviewBoard. Who knows, you may even find your name on this list in the future!

Also, check out our translations on FreedroidRPG's page on Transifex!

To make this the best game possible, any help and feedback is appreciated!
